Healthy Meal suggestions for Outback Steakhouse

It is hard to give a restaurant 5 stars but the experience we had at Outback on 2/6/2010 was exceptional. The service was attentive. Ryan was our server and Jodi was the manager on duty and both did a very good job of ensuring things were good. The food, as usual, was flavorful and cooked to order. The price paid for the service and food/drink received was fair. There are many choices for dining out and as in one of my other post you can choose poorly. This is a place I can recommend with confidence.

Typical steak house. I like the place since I can get the decent steak there. No surprises.

Steak (sirloin) was very dry & tasted like cardboard. Sweet potato was overlooked & burnt in the middle. Drink refills were not delivered in a timely fashion. Mgr came over & asked how things were - I told him the steak was dry & he didn't seem to care. Doubt we will be back....

This location used to be one if my favorites. Went tonight for early Valentines dinner to avoid weekend rush. We sat for a bit before waitress greeted us. Went at 8pm on Wednesday night so wasn't busy but she was talking with another(her only other) table. She came and took our drink order. Was surprised for 4 dollar margaritas. Not a lot of alcohol but tasted good. I got the filet and lobster tail, my husband got a burger-asked to add bacon but she forgot- almost a blessing because he could not eat the burger it was soooo salty. I took a bite and literally tasted like the lid fell off the bottle of salt and a whole jar of salt fell on it. Was not edible- would have been worse with the bacon. (I told him that's what he gets for ordering a burger at outback) My filet was decent and tasted good. Lobster tail was extremely tough and stuck to the shell. Hard to peel it off. Baked potato just tasted/looked old like had been sitting out. Heard another waiter tell their table they has half price lobster tails through the 16th...would have loved to know that. I was charged full price. We decided to get a "pitcher" of margarita for a reasonable 12.00- it came 3/4 full and was FILLED with ice, not cubes or moveable pieces but huge blocks of ice. We couldn't get two full glasses out of the pitcher. The waitress told us that's how it comes usually 2 or 2 1/2 glasses. But didn't care we were unhappy and literally walked away while I was talking. So we were charged 12 for 8 dollars worth of drinks. The service was just terrible. I had no idea where our waitress was the majority of the night, we were left without anything to drink half of the meal, our order was screwed up and it was so obvious- waitress didn't even try to hide it that she couldn't care less about our meal/experience. We did have the coconut shrimp appetizer and it was very good which is why it earned two stars. We won't be going back.

Great Experience! In a world where mediocrity has become the accepted norm, how refreshing it is to experience the heartbeat of customer service! I had dinner at the Outback Steakhouse in South Elgin, Illinois. It was a amazing... The owner (Amy) has apparently poured herself into her staff by teaching them the value of customer SERVICE. They want everyone who dines at this restaurant to experience a wonderful meal and for them to leave knowing that they are appreciated. What began as typical dining experience was transformed by relationship. I had never been to this restaurant before. But by the time my meal was finished, I had not only received wonderful service from my server but was able to meet the owner. I've met many managers or owners of restaurants, but I've never received the quality of service that Amy provides for her customers. If you go to this Outback, and I strongly suggest that you do. Ask for Amy and tell her BG says "Hi!" You'll have a great meal and leave with a new friend!

My family goes to this Outback fairly often, and we are always happy with our food and the service. We enjoy the bread and whipped butter appetizer. I can't imagine saying there's not enough salad dressing - I always have to ask for it on the side because it's too much. The teriyaki steak is my favorite. The Outback Signature Steak is the best, and the teriyaki is the same steak (but obviously with teriyaki sauce). The only reason I don't give them 5 stars is because their bar is terrible! If you like your cocktails, wait till you get home and make them yourself.

This is my 500th review. I had been waiting on doing it on something extra special, then wrote this one. And...I've now used it on Outback Steakhouse. woo hoo! Anyway. My husband has been raving about how he wanted to try this place out for weeks. So, I finally agreed to go there. We generally try local places versus chains, but after listening to a few descriptions of food, I figured we could give it a try. Our waitress was friendly but chill. She actually seemed like a genuinely good person and was good to converse with. We were there celebrating with our friends graduating from PA school and she comped a "celebration dessert", so that is much appreciated. So I'm not much of a steak lover, so I had the chicken tacos. They were pretty good, just somewhat messy/overflowing. 2 of the 3 tacos and fries left me stuffed...but I managed to get the third down my gullet (it just wouldn't be the same the next day). I ordered them with their spicy ranch and it was a good pick. We of course had the "awesome blossom" or "bloomin onion" (or whatever it's called), which did not disappoint. My husband had chicken tenders. Our friends had steak tacos and a steak and they seemed to like their meals as well. As far as drinks go, wine is the best choice. The guys liked their margaritas, but I had one sip of my mojito and realized that it was probably made from a mix. The waitress had warned me that they were super sweet, and I should've listened to her. I sent it back and got some wine and was much happier for it. If in the area, we might stop back. I'd like to try their mashed potatoes, which looked pretty good on a friend's plate.

Went here for dinner tonight and had a great time. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly without 'hovering'. All four of our entrees were cooked to perfection. I had an 8 oz filet that was cooked to a perfect medium rare, as was my wife's prime rib. The other two entrees were the stuffed tilapia and grilled salmon which were also delicious. ALso, make sure to try the "Tavern Mac & Cheese" as a side - it was amazing - one of the best mac & cheese's I have ever had. We will definitely be back!

I understand that this is Outback; low-end, cheap and convenient steakhouse. But it is a steakhouse nonetheless, and you should be able to get an acceptable piece of meat. I'm writing this review after TWICE dining here and TWICE ordering the filet which both times came out way over cooked. My wife and I tend to eat late, so both times we've eaten here have been at about an hour before they close, meaning very few other people in the restaurant, which to me translates to a cook who has the time to watch the piece of $26 meat on his grill. Doesn't seem to be the case here, though. If you're looking for a decent steak dinner, find another steakhouse.

Mediocrity at its finest- from food to service. I urge you to find a meal elsewhere. I just moved here from the west coast and I thought bringing my family here for a meal would be a good choice. I won't visit here again because of the high prices (you don't get what you pay for) combined with so many other choices. Meh.

Typically I'd suggest that an "Outback is an Outback is and Outback", but this was definitely not the case! I've been to several Outback locations before, and certainly wouldn't dine here again unless I had to. Four of us arrived for a party of six and had to wait on the last two. We didn't have reservations so when we arrived, I told the host, "We'll have six total at 6 o'clock." He said okay, so we made our way to the bar and had a drink. Everything was dandy. Fast forward to when the final two arrived, we walked up, and were told we didn't have a reservation and we'd have to wait up to 15 minutes?! The host apologized and said he didn't realize we'd need a table...I'm sorry what?! So we proceeded to sit right back down at the bar, frustrated and hungry. Thankfully the host must have said something to a manager, because we were approached in under five minutes. We sat at a round table and as our server approached, I could tell it was just going to be that kind of visit. You know those restaurant visits...when nothing goes right. The server was less than stellar - very impersonal and dry, and my mom's Coke was empty halfway through the meal and a refill (which he was sure to point out was free at the beginning of the meal) was never offered. The food was Outback food. Nothing fantastic, but I was pleased that they offer something SEMI health-conscious now (I had the shrimp caeser salad). It was all ends of salad and barely any dressing, but that's about what I expected. Knowing how horrendous the majority of their food items was, I was more happy for a lighter meal than disappointed. I think Outback food overall is great if you're looking to starve yourself for two days in preparation, but this location definitely lacked any service or reason to return!

Saturday evening here the crowd is full... but only 4-5 mins of wait we able to get a table for 2. Service & evironment is perfect for us. Foods is not bad, but my hubby can make better at home lol. Overall satisfied for my dining experience here, will come back again to try their ribs.

We actually decided to eat here on Easter Sunday. We wanted the special steak & lobster meal, and it happened to also be that kids ate free. Bonus! My steak was perfect and my lobster tail was DELICIOUS. I opted for grilled and a couple nights prior I had lobster tail at Red Lobster and didn't care much for it. Outback's tail was much smaller (about 1/2 the size), but the taste was perfect! We had also started the meal with the onion -- which, how can you not? And then we ended the meal by sharing the dessert sampler. It's 3 desserts -- 6 of us shared it. I should have timed it, because I swear it was gone in 55 seconds. Ha! Overall it was a nice meal.

I'm a sucker for Outback. I still think the best steak I've ever had was a few years back, their NY strip, medium well. It was great. But speaking of this experience I had at this location, It was good. Went here on a Monday night. Originally was going to watch the Bears game at the BWW down the street but that got full quick. So just came here and sat at the bar. Not ideal obviously for watching sports but it had it on so that was fine. Couldn't hear the audio since they play their own playlists. Got served by the bartender who was pretty nice and welcoming. Took our orders and everything came out fine. Also got a free blooming onion since some nascar driver won something or something like that. No clue, I just like free food. Got the ribs this time and they were alright. Full slab here just seems so small compared to other place. Maybe they're going for quality over quantity, but for 18 or so bucks, I'd prefer quantity. Place was dead this night. Probably like 2 other people there. As I was leaving, the bartender was just talking to the waitresses and didn't say thanks or bye to us. Kind of bugged me a little but oh well, I'll get over it.

I really like this restaurant. I love the food and the prices are reasonable, for the most part. The waiters and waitresses are always super nice and very fast at getting you what you need. The reasons why I am giving this restaurant four stars instead of five is because they don't always gauge the temperature in their facility to what the customers would like. When it's a little chilly outside the temperature is stuffy and uncomfortable in the restaurant. When it's around 80° outside, the restaurant is a little like a freezer. Don't get me wrong, you're never going to make everybody happy but unfortunately every time it has been a little cold outside, I have felt like I was eating while sitting in an oven. Other than that, I do like this restaurant and every waiter or waitress that I have had. Thank you, Outback, for making good food with friendly staff.

This place was packed! We didn't expect to be seated right away on a Saturday night at 6:30pm right smack dab in the middle of their busiest time. A 45-50 min wait to be seated you say? Sure, no problem. How about maybe, a not-so-seasoned introvert, border-line unaccommodating server--with a great smile nonetheless would be "serving" you? Still, not a problem for me. I'm not the type of person or customer that looks for tiny little things to complain about just to be a pain in the neck critic. I don't even like criticizing things to be honest. I'm pretty easy for the most part, really. By the time we got seated, tables were opening up left and right after that(long story how we ended up in this joint at this time), and rush hour was definitely done. I would expect somekind of a standard quality of service or accommodation by a "franchise/chain" establishment such as this, but when other tables have their "complimentary bread and butter tray" except for ours... when my drink was sent to the wrong table, while my wife's soup arrived before my missing Corona with matching missing lime was sent... no big deal. I just don't think I have to ask for a plate to eat on, and put my chicken wing bones in. Sorry, I didn't wanna put mybones back on theserving dish. She probably just overlooked it, or that's really how you eat wings in Australia. Who knows. Pretty good deal though for an 8oz. medium rare "Victoria Filet" for $12.99(huh?! I wasn't about to correct that, but I coulda swore the price for that seemed way more expensive on the menu. Maybe it's the Sat Night Special!). At that point, I didn't even bother double checking if my order was taken accurately. Reason being, I wasn't even asked if I wanted the steak "Wood-Fire" or "Regular" style, and it didn't seem like a real Filet cut (I know it's not a real steakhouse). Although, perfectly cooked medium-rare though, and the wings were good. Not going back to this one, or any other location for that matter. She would've gotten a bigger tip too(trust me, I tip well) if all the wrong things didn't pile up like it did. To me, this experience I had tonight kinda says a lot about their brand. I knew we shoulda went with drive-thru tonight. Lol. Holy crap!!! My first Yelp review ever, and it turned out to be a frigging novel!!!?? I apologize for this, I was just going at it. Future reviews will be about 70% shorter than this. Promise. Peace.

If you want consistent food, just go to Outback. Honestly it's one of my favorite restaurants. It's always consistent and the last time I went there I had a great meal. The bread that was served at the beginning was rustic goodness and then I ordered an artichoke and Parmesan flat bread. That was outstanding. The best part was the filet I ordered. It was very juicy and a delight to the senses. The mashes potatoes were creamy and just enough garlic was added. One of the best meals in awhile

This is my stand by go to place for a good gluten free meal. They have a huge gluten free menu with tons of items to chose from including desserts, and a knowledgeable and accomodating staff. The steaks, crab legs and lobster here are always consistently good, and they often have coupons and specials. Never had a bad meal here, always got good service, and they never accidentally served me gluten. Will continue to visit for a consistently good gluten free meal.

How is this place still in business? Food quality aside. Their customer service is nonexistent. Not sure what kind of meat the teriyaki beef is other than awful. And it arrived rare. Not medium rare. 20 minutes goes by as I look at the unappealing raw plate of meat in front of me because the waitress is MIA. When she does come by I explain nicely that I am dissatisfied with how it was cooked. She actually asked me if I wanted her to put it back on the grill. Are you joking? How many health violations does that cover? Obviously not know what to do, she retrieves a manager. Who asks me the same thing. No. I don't want you to put it back on the grill. And No I don't want anything else at this point since my spouse is now finished with his meal. Both retreat LEAVING THE PLATE OF MEAT IN FRONT OF ME!!!! What happened to customer service? Why are staff not trained? Fail! It's not that difficult to provide good quality food and service. Well, it is for Outback.

Great Place - went there for lunch. Food was very good and service was excellent. Had the ribs, steaks both 6 and 8 ounce and the chicken fingers along with salad and soup. Would go back again and again. Family of 4 with tip was $65.00

I don't get here very often, but love it when i do. The bread they server before the meal is always so awesome - warm - soft -and tasty as can be, especially with the butter they serve. I ordered the prime rib and crab cakes - how do you say..... OMG I WAS IN HEAVEN!!! The meat was absolutely perfect medium rare to my liking and the crab cakes were fantastic and a perfect compliment to my dish. Our waitress was very pleasant, nice and always smiling; she even took a little extra care with my daughters needs (7 yr old) which I appreciated. Clean, nice, pleasant, great food, what else is there to say. I gave it a 4 star because it was everything i expected it to be, I've eaten at a bunch of Outbacks and have an expectation that must be met or my rating would be lower. I would have to be blown away with 'something' from a chain restaurant to give it a 5 star......... but don't let that take away from their great work, they were awesome.

Ate there a few nights ago with my son and I have to say I liked their food. They have tuned their recipes to " Chicago's" Taste, rather than Texas. The service could have been better, but I got the impression the waitress might have had a bad night.

Of all of the "chainy" places on Randall (Chili's, Applebees, Lone Star etc.) this is a solid competitor. Love the baked sweet potatoes. New light menu option has several offerings to make your choice under 500 Calories. Attentive service. Even the manager stopped by to be sure our new server was taking good care of us.

Unfortunately, my first and last visit to Outback was very disappointing. The Bloomin' Onion's nice flavor was pitifully drowned in salt and dripping grease. The salty, "well marbled" ribeye had more globs of fat, that had to be excised, than marbling, not to mention that it was not cooked to order (medium was bloody rare), and it yielded very few edible bites. The lobster tail was an absolute travesty and insult. The tiny tail was undercooked, sprinkled with excessive seasoned salt, and the salty butter (?) sauce in which to dip it, was inedible. So-so bread and house salad, with barely enough dressing, was too boring to finish. The meal was an awful overload of salt and grease overall. The only thing to their credit that evening was the courtesy of the staff (sans "chef"), who were very attentive, professional, and graciously provided a full refund.
